Movies with Julio: A Stroll Down Romantic Comedy Avenue
I want to thank my editor for allowing me to talk about movies with you again. This time it is going to be a little different, let’s talk about five of my favorite movies that I have to watch as punishment for spending my weekend watching football.
The weekends are made for you and your significant other to spend time together. Maybe you’re enjoying the beautiful fall weather as you head to your local pumpkin patch, or going to your local coffee shop and getting a Pumpkin Spice Latte, and finally picking through those fresh vegetables at the last few Farmer’s Market. All while your loved one is missing his beloved game. I’ve learned the hard way. In my younger years I detested these kinds of movies, but they’ve grown to have a special place in my heart.
Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan in the ’90s. Do I need to say anything else? That combination was just as big as Tickle Me Elmo was that one Christmas! You can never go wrong with Tom and Meg. You Got Mail is a movie showing you the beauty of the internet. When the internet was innocent. When you still had phone lines and dial up internet. This is definitely a movie to watch and reminisces about the time you and your first love talked on the phone until one of you fell asleep.
Heath Ledger, what a fantastic actor, he is truly missed on the big screens. 10 Things I Hate About You is a movie about being the cooler, cuter, and more popular sibling in your family. Unfortunately, they’re also going to the same school together. With strict rules at home, the younger sibling can’t date anyone until the older sibling does. Making it a very difficult time for the younger sister. This is one of those teen Rom-Com movies that isn’t the best, but worth the laughs.
Not going to lie to you, this is one of my all-time favorite movies. You ever seen someone else do the Hand Jive like John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John?! Nope. No one. The beauty of 20-year-old actors portraying high school students racing through the LA River singing about their car and eating at their local diner is something that can’t be recreated. There might be a video on the internet of me singing along with John Travolta.
Ryan Gosling. That’s all… let’s keep it moving.
This is the best performance of Jennifer Lopez’s career. Selena was a Mexican queen. She was everything your 8-year-old daughter aspires to be. She was and still is a great example to girls and women all around the world. A singer, songwriter, spokesperson, actress, and fashion designer Selena was a star, a life taken at the age of 23 but has left a resounding affect in many young women. “Selena” is a biography that details her rise to fame and the unfortunate death. This movie and her music was a staple at my house growing up, I will hand down Selena’s music to my daughter.
I’m sure we all have our favorite romantic comedies, dramas, and biographies that we love. There are a ton of movies that missed the cut. Do you know how difficult it is to name your Top 5 favorite rom-coms!? Luckily, I was able to come up with one that the whole family will love, one your husbands or boyfriends will hate, and maybe even a few that you’ll love if you’re spending the night alone.
