Apple iPhone 7: Top 5 Things You Need to Know

Iphone 7 Release
Julio Aguirre

I’m just going to put it out there, I am an Android user. I have been since I was a young pup. Before that I had a Blackberry Curve. That keyboard was fantastic. So beautiful. But, then the Motorola Droid caught my eye. Do you remember that slide out keyboard?! This was a difficult time for many of us; the iPhone was an AT&T exclusive at the time, Blackberry stopped innovating, and the Google’s Android operating system was the a new kid on the block.

The iPhone 7 is Apple’s new take on what is going to be the pinnacle of the phone industry. Apple did tweak the design a little bit, but to the naked eye, you won’t be able to tell much difference. Here are 5 things that have changed on the iPhone that you need to know:

RIP Headphone Jack

To all my Aux Cord DJ’s out there: you need to find a new career. Apple decided to remove the headphone jack on the iPhone 7. The days when you could charge your phone and listen to music at the same time are gone. The iPhone 7 will only work with Bluetooth headphones or Lightning headphones. Apple will include a Lightning adapter that allows you to use a regular 3.5mm headphone jack.

Hello AirPods

With the removal of the headphone jack, Apple decided to release their own version of wireless headphones called AirPods. These AirPods are completely wireless and have a 5 hour listening time on a single charge. They feature external mics, a wireless charging case, and touch sensitivity on the outside for media controls. The wireless charging case gives you an additional 3 hours of listening time with one 15-minute charge.

Fam, this is where Apple hit every mark, got an A+ on the test most of us didn’t study for, passed the class with flying colors, and went to the local pizza shop to celebrate the accomplishment! Apple looked at their competition and said, “Hmm dual cameras? We will do it better!” And as far as I can tell from the demos, they did just that! There’s a new 12mp sensor with a 1.8 aperture and digital Zoom up to 5x on the iPhone 7.

With the iPhone 7+, Apple brings the beast! TWO cameras, both 12mp one wide angle and the other a telephoto camera, with optical zoom at 2x and digital zoom up to 10x. Optical image stabilization for both phones, Quad-LED True Tone Flash that reads flickering light of artificial lighting. For those of you that love to take selfies, the front facing camera comes at 7mp, 1080p HD video recording, and Retina Flash. I truly think that this is the best camera out on any smart phone.

The Best Battery Life Yet

The battery life on any iphone has never been great. The battery has always been a stickler. Have you ever sent a few snapchat videos during a sporting event and see your battery has been drained?! *screams internally* Well apple went to the laboratory and improved this, they state that the iPhone 7 will give you two more hours of battery life and that the iphone 7+ will provide you with an hour more of battery life. Big if true.

Many people are saying that the audio coming from the speakers of the iPhone 6 was not great. Apple added two front facing speakers to the iPhone 7 and 7+; one at the top and one at the bottom. This new stereo speaker layout gives you twice the volume as before. They also made the iPhone water resistant! With IP67 protection, I better see some underwater pictures of your trip to Yellowstone park. Rounding up the iPhone, they went away with the small 16gb capacity phones and moved up to 32gb starting. They also introduced a new color: Jet Black. The iPhone 7 and 7+ is available for preorder on September 9th and goes on sale September 16th.

That’s it, the new iPhone 7 and 7+ a new look on an old time great. If your phone contract has expired, I definitely think that should be a new phone for you. If you look past the fact that the design of the phone hasn’t changed much, but added more bang for your buck. Go for it. You will have a great phone for the next few years.
