NFM Cares - Volunteering In Our Communities This Summer
The NFM Cares program, created and led by NFM’s own team of conscientious employees, helps a variety of local and national charities including the American Red Cross, Teammates Mentoring Program, local school districts, area food banks, The America Heart Association, The America Lunch Association, and the US Military (to name a few!).
On June 29th, six individuals from our Texas store went to Dallas to serve at The Stew Pot with NFM Cares. When asked about something they remembered from this experience, one volunteer said, “Things can change quickly. It was a nice dose of reality and will hopefully help me to not take things for granted. You never know what someone else is going through or what put them in their current situation. It was a very fulfilling experience.”
Our NFM Cares team in Des Moines recently held its second blood drive and collected 11 units of blood, two of which were double red blood cells! A double red cell donation is similar to a whole blood donation, and it uses a special machine that allows a donor to safely donate two units of red blood cells during one donation while returning your plasma and platelets to you. There were a total of 15 donors who registered to donate and those units of blood collected are making a lifesaving impact for up to 33 hospital patients!
The NFM Cares team in Omaha volunteered at a one-of-a-kind event called Project Homeless Connect. This event has helped over 3000 homeless people find housing, needed services, healthcare, hair styles and over 300 sets of dentures and 500 pair of glasses.
At this event, the NFM Cares team assisted in a variety of roles, including serving as guides to assist over 500 of the area’s homeless as they make their way through over 40 service providers distributed around two basketball courts filled with medical and dental staff. Many of the folks attending the event received haircuts, got info on public transportation, and employment assistance.
Our NFM Cares team in Kansas City recently helped the Harvesters Mobile Food Pantry prepare food for distribution to people in need in areas where access to food assistance is limited.
While these events help improve teamwork and engagement among the NFM Family- they serve an even greater service to the communities we live in!
