Baked Double Chocolate Donuts Recipe from Whatcha Makin’ Now?

Baked Double Chocolate Donuts Recipe from Whatcha Makin’ Now?
Chelsea Fanders

We all have a go-to donut, don’t we? I always pick the cake donut with frosting. Probably because it’s like having a slice of cake for breakfast.

A donut pan should be a staple in all kitchens. Baked donuts are super simple to make and with so many variations you’ll never run out of ideas. I went with chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. I love the colorful sprinkles, but you could mix it up and top with toasted coconut, candy or peanuts.

My next purchase might be this Mini Hot Donut Maker. Genius, right? Quickly followed by the purchase of these pillow cases. Naturally.

Baked Double Chocolate Donuts Recipe

1 cup flour

1/4 cup cocoa powder

1/2 cup dark brown sugar, packed

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 large egg

3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted and cooled

1/2 cup milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup powdered sugar (more/less for desired consistency)

1/4 cup cocoa powder

1/4 cup milk

Pinch of salt

Rainbow sprinkles

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease a donut pan and set aside.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, dark brown sugar, baking powder and salt. Set aside.

In a small bowl, whisk together the egg, melted butter, milk and vanilla. Gradually add to dry ingredients and mix until just combined.

Using a spoon, add batter to the donut pan. Bake for 9-11 minutes, or until donuts are set. Allow donuts to cool in the pan before transferring to a cooling rack.

Once donuts are cool, prepare the frosting by whisking together the powdered sugar, cocoa powder, salt and milk. Add additional powdered sugar until frosting is desired consistency.

Dip donuts in frosting to cover the top half of donut. Add sprinkles. Allow donuts to set (10-15 minutes) before serving.

Recipe makes 8-10 donuts.
