Looking Back on NFM of Texas' First Year
Just one year ago, we celebrated the Grand Opening of NFM Texas! It was the culmination of years of planning, design, hard work, and everything in-between. What started as a patch of land off of the Sam Rayburn tollway is now the 400 acre Grandscape development that’s home to the enormous Nebraska Furniture Mart of Texas.
“The entire store is over the top. You cannot describe this store to people and have them really grasp it. You have to see it to understand the model.” – Ron Blumkin, CEO of NFM.
The announcement that we were building a new store in The Colony came in late 2011 and construction began in September 2012. Steve Davis, the General Sales Manager for flooring, said that he was “surprised by the scope of the project and [how] staff from all regions helped to make this store successful.”
We worked hard to establish our company’s culture and core values by bringing in about 20% of our workforce from other NFM locations. This helped us hit the ground running with a built-in support network for all of our new employees to lean on.
At the Grand Opening, Ron Blumkin said, “About five years ago we began the search for the location of our next store. While we had several great options, in the end, our decision boiled down to relationships. The Dallas/Fort Worth metro was the right place, with the right values and where we could be most successful. The Colony made us feel like we were family!”
Over the past year, we’ve been floored by the community’s feedback and engagement. We’ve been honored to host the Live BIG Benefit with the Cancer Support Community of North Texas along with several other major in-store events. Now, local food trucks set up shop every Saturday in the parking lot. Getting in your steps and lapping the massive store has become a badge of honor. We’re excited to be a part of the Dallas/Fort Worth area, and we look forward to many more years!
“The response about our service and selection has been fantastic. I meet a lot of people here for their first time, and it is always a pleasure to see those same faces back again and again.” – John Fletcher Appliances General Sales Manager.
