4 Ingenious Devices That Will Make Your Home Smarter

4 Ingenious Devices That Will Make Your Home Smarter
Aaron Schmid

New devices to make your home smarter are being introduced every day. Whether a product is designed to make your home safer, your life easier, or your wallet thicker, there’s one thing about these devices that’s undeniable: they’re awesome!. The best part? A compatible smartphone and a home Wi-Fi connection are all you need to dive head first into the home automation world. Take a look at some of our latest and greatest smart home devices below…

The RIng Smart Video Doorbell

The Ring Smart Video Doorbell lets you see who’s at your front door even when you’re not at home.

Ring Smart Doorbell

A wise woman once said “If you like it, then you shoulda put a ring on it.” The Ring smart doorbell provides security for your home in a variety of ways. It works like this: Someone rings your doorbell and you receive a video call on your phone via the Ring app. When the call comes in, you can answer to see who is at your door and speak to them. For example, if the FedEx guy is delivering a package, you can easily tell him/her to leave it at the doorstep because you’ll be home soon. If someone is at your door but chooses not to ring the doorbell, Ring uses its motion sensor to alert you and start recording the visitor. If you want to protect your home and show it how much you care, it may be time to put a Ring on it.

Petzi Pet Cam

Check on your sidekick when you’re not at home with the Petzi Pet Cam.

The Petzi Pet Cam

Fido and Meow Meow will love this one. Petzi is a sound + video pet camera viewable from anywhere using the Petzi app on an Apple or Android phone. While video chatting with your pet, treat him or her to a snack by pressing a button on the app or snap a quick photo of them to show your friends. Petzi is a perfect solution for the animal lover who often wonders what their furry friend at home is up to during the work day.

The Kwikset Bluetooth Electronic Lock

The Kwikswet Bluetooth Lock turns your smartphone into a key!

The Kwikset Smart Lock

Kwikset’s smart locks use your smartphone to make entering your home easier than ever. Simply walk up to your door equipped with the smart lock, touch the lock and walk in. You may wonder how that can possibly be safe. Kwikset uses Bluetooth wireless technology to detect when your phone is close by. As you approach the lock with your phone in pocket, the lock recognizes you and disarms. Don’t always have your smartphone? You can use an included fob that works the same way. Want to let someone else in? Kwikset allows you to send electronic keys to whomever you’d like using the Kevo app. An advantage of this is not only the ability to grant access to another user, but also instantly take access away. Because the app alerts you when the door is opened or closed, you can disable the electronic key as soon as your guest has come and gone. Kwikset’s locks are a great way to add security and convenience to your home.

Nest Learning Thermostat

The Nest Learning Thermostat is one of the pioneering home automation devices.

The Nest Learning Thermostat

The Nest Learning Thermostat has been around longer than the other products I’ve mentioned, but there’s no denying how effective it is. Nest is a home thermostat that is easy to install and even easier to use. After installation, adjust the temperature in your home the way you like it for about a week. During that time, Nest learns your habits and starts to adjust the temperature for you. If you like your home colder at night, Nest will learn this and start to automatically turn the temperature down around your usual bed time. It can even use the location of your smartphone to find out if you’re home or not and adjust your thermostat accordingly. On top of that, it saves the average user 10-15% on energy bills which Nest claims will pay for the device in around two years. Can we afford not to buy one of these?
