How We Designed a Room Using Pantone's Color of the Year
Annually, the world-renowned authority on color, Pantone announces its selection for the Color of the Year. This year they chose two colors, Rose Quartz and Serenity. According to Leatrice Eiseman, the Executive Director at the Pantone Color Institute, “Rose Quartz and Serenity demonstrate an inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue, reflecting connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace.”
Our Display Specialist in Texas, Rebecca Bowers, used the Rose Quartz and Serenity colors in a very realistic room setting that could be replicated in your home. You could easily adapt elements from the vignette and marry them with your current furniture and décor.
Rebecca explained that the Pantone Fashion, Home + Interiors Color System is a vital tool for designers in the apparel, home furnishings and interior design industries for selecting and specifying color used in the manufacture of textiles and fashion.
Rebecca’s creation is a charming room featuring the Pantone colors plus touches of gray, cream and other shades of blue. The collection of silver colored decorative wall mirrors and the contemporary style ceiling pendant coordinate perfectly the gray tones found in the sofa and chairs. The Hugo Coffee and End Tables are constructed of polished concrete resulting in a sleek minimalist style. Typically, one would assume that concrete would only be used in outdoor furniture and basement floors. Not anymore! Polished concrete is a hot trend and is being used for countertops, backsplashes, sinks, fireplace mantels, interior living space floors and of course, furniture.
The Hunth Sofa in a luxurious gray velvet is from Huntington House. It features an assortment of toss pillows in a bold stripe and silky damask fabric which coordinate with the rest of the room seamlessly. The loose pillow back design makes it the perfect spot to get comfortable, lie back and relax.
Rebecca suggested if you are choosing to use both colors together, select one of them as your main color. In our Inspiration Showcase, she chose to focus on Serenity, and used Rose Quartz as an accent color, used mainly in the toss pillows and the floral arrangements.
