Rustic Chic: Get the Look at NFM
Welcome to the new web series Get the Look at NFM. In this blog series, I will be taking the most popular interior design styles you see all over the web and TV, and recreating them with items you can purchase at Nebraska Furniture Mart.
Today, the style I am focusing on is Rustic Chic. This has been a popular look on TV shows and online. There are many ways to achieve this style, but the key to getting the Rustic Chic look is to marry the old and the new. For example, a traditional shape in a weathered finish might be used in an unconventional way. One popular example of this is a reclaimed barn wood door used inside the home. Another key component to achieving this look is to bring elements of the outdoors inside. This can be done by the use of organic materials, textures, and colors.
A great way to start is by bringing in natural or reclaimed wood. This wood is not heavily stained or sanded to let the raw beauty of the wood show. It could be a distressed cocktail table or a large bookcase like this one from Timeless Designs.
Rustic Chic is about neutrals and texture. For leather, look for soft natural leather with a distressed patina. English arms are a good choice for this look. An example of this is the Foundations sofa by Hancock & Moore. It brings in a hint of traditional in a modern way. More character has been added with the brass caster legs and the scalloped back.
On the floor add interest by using a neutral rug that has pattern and texture. The rug should not be a big statement piece, it needs to pull all the furniture together and compliment the design. Check out this Connextion area rug from Jaipur.
