KC Inspiration Showcase: Your Room
As a kid growing up in the Sixties, the only computers in use were the size of a large room. If you needed to make a telephone call, you used this thing that was either mounted to the wall or attached to it via wire. It had a rotary dial with numbers and letters! If the person you were calling was using their telephone at the same time you were calling them, you heard a beeping busy signal.
My dad worked for Western Electric designing parts for Southwestern Bell. One year, he helped put together a trade exhibition where we saw the world’s first video phone (an idea that sadly never really took off). The first commercially available cell phone was marketed in 1983, cost a whopping $4000, and compared to today’s phones, looked to be the size of a Frigidaire! Now we have Skype, FaceTime, and e-mail. Instead of Encyclopedia Britannica we have Wikipedia!
There are some things that will never change, like going back to school every year, and, if you’re lucky, having your own room. We decorated our latest Inspiration Showcase with that in mind. The New Era Lime Desk Chair is a comfortable seat to spin around in while you think about starting that English paper. And since sleep is always a priority to keep your Kensington Full Storage Bed in Burnished Cherry so you can catch some Z’s before your next big test. Now you can hang a ‘KEEP OUT’ sign on warning your siblings not to mess with your stuff! Your room is the place where you can be alone with your hopes and dreams of what you want to be when you grow up. Alas, there is still homework too.
No matter what’s going on in the world or the challenges that school may throw your way, this is your room! You can listen to your music! You can be whoever and whatever you want to be! Pretty cool, huh?
