Mother’s Day Gift Guide
“All That I am or Hope to Be I Owe to My Mother.” This quote is definitely true of my mom and everything she has done for me in my past, present, and our future. As a child without brothers or sisters, my mom has become one of my best friends, someone I can turn to in good times and bad. I can always pick up the phone any time of the day and she will always be there to give me advice on any topic. In fact I usually speak with her every day on the phone. If your mom is as special as mine, then we want to be sure to honor them on this special day.
This year, Mother’s Day is on Sunday, May 10. It was first celebrated in 1908, when Anna Jarvis held a memorial for her mother in Grafton, West Virginia. Her campaign to make “Mother’s Day” a recognized holiday in the United States began in 1905, the year her beloved mother, Ann Reeves Jarvis, died. Anna’s mission was to honor her own mother by continuing work she started and to set aside a day to honor mothers, “The person who has done more for you than anyone in the world.” Anna’s mother, Ann Jarvis, was a peace activist who cared for wounded soldiers on both sides of the Civil War and created Mother’s Day Work Clubs to address public health issues.
Everyone’s mom has helped them along the way. Mother’s Day presents are just a small token of appreciation.
