NFM Featured Designer: Elena Kerwin
How would you describe your design style?
I do not have a particular design style, I like it all! My design philosophy is that each project is a timeless expression of different tastes and approaches to life. Every design style is a particular signature that defines each client’s lifestyle
Looking back on your design experience, what’s your favorite project you’ve worked on? Why?
I have enjoyed all the projects that I have worked on, but the one that is the most renowned is a house in Calgary, Alberta that I did the complete interior for. The house is stunning and all the furniture, accessories and rugs came from NFM. Consequently, the house was published in the Architectural Digest.
What do you enjoy most about being a designer?
I love being able to help people create their dream homes or dream rooms. The end result is usually expected and has an amazing “Wow!” factor for the client that I love to experience.
What’s your favorite piece of furniture that you’ve invested in?
I loved all the furniture that I selected for my house; everything blends perfectly.
What’s the first question you typically ask a potential client?
Almost always I ask them first what is their design style, then I ask them to show me a piece of furniture in our show room that they feel attracted to. With this information I can figure out their design style which usually is different from what they described first.
